I went to the grocery and bought 6 lamb shanks.  As I headed to the door, I realized I did not have a pot quite adequate for the lamb so I went to the cookery section and bought a beautiful cast iron enameled blue pot.  Big Blue and I cooked up a storm all winter but when Peggy came by she said, "But Beata, you do not have a cupboard big enough for that pot."  I realized Peggy was right.

I was thinking I would have someone remodel the kitchen over the holidays when it was raining and they wanted an indoor job.  When Jason and Ann hit the end of the my driveway I started a quicker process.

We hit it off well. They are both good communicators, intelligent and quick.  They heard what I said about style, time frame and prices...but they did wonder if I could start next week.

OK by me as I can make fast decisions and it truly went without a hitch.  From interviewing 4 contractors in mid-April, I had a finished kitchen, new wood floors in the entire house and a few other fix ups by early July.  Very little 'dead' time when nothing happened.  Good scheduling, good communication.  I knew what was happening when. 

Sub contractors were almost all reliable, high quality workers.  For flooring, I have one friend who already followed up and hired them to repair a botched job.  One of the electrical guys.....I may  hire his mother as a caregiver for an elderly friend.

Yes, I still had to greet people early in the morning and move to the garage while the floors were replaced but it was far easier knowing I was getting reliable work and high quality craftsmanship.

Big Blue loves his new cupboard ..with his own little light.
